1. How Android Manages Background Network Sockets
Across modern Android releases (including Doze mode and background execution limits), the operating system aggressively curtails background network sockets, wakelocks, and CPU usage when a phone’s screen is locked or an app is minimized. For standard apps, this saves battery life.
However, BitTorrent requires open TCP/UDP socket connections with swarm peers to maintain transfer piece flows. Torrent Download Studio uses an official Android Foreground Service with an ongoing status notification to inform the system that a user-initiated transfer is actively underway.
2. Configuring System Battery & Notification Settings
- Open your device’s Settings > Apps > Torrent Download Studio.
- Tap Battery (or App battery usage).
- Select “Unrestricted” (or disable “Optimized / Put app to sleep”).
On Android 13+ (API 33+), runtime notification permissions are required. The system foreground service cannot operate without an ongoing notification in the status bar:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Torrent Download Studio > Notifications.
- Verify that notifications are turned ON.
Under Settings > Apps > Torrent Download Studio > Mobile data & Wi-Fi, ensure“Background data” is enabled so the app can continue exchanging pieces when minimized.
3. Device Manufacturer Specifics
Navigate to Device Care > Battery > Background usage limits and ensure Torrent Download Studio is not placed in “Sleeping apps” or “Deep sleeping apps”.
Open App info > Battery saver and select “No restrictions”. Enable “Autostart” if you resume transfers across device reboots.
Select Settings > Apps > Torrent Download Studio > App battery usage > Unrestricted.
Torrent Download Studio uses an Android foreground service while an active transfer runs. Continuation depends on peer availability, network conditions, device settings, and Android battery management. Transfers cannot proceed if peers disconnect or if device Wi-Fi/data is disabled.
