A .torrent file is a small bencoded metafile that describes the files, chunk hashes, and announce trackers for a BitTorrent transfer. Unlike magnet links which require resolving metadata over the peer swarm first, a local .torrent file already contains the complete file tree and piece hash list.
Torrent Download Studio integrates directly with Android’s system document picker (Storage Access Framework), allowing you to select any saved .torrent file securely without requiring broad legacy storage permissions on modern Android versions.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Save the .torrent file using your Android web browser from an authorized distribution portal (such as an official Ubuntu ISO release page or LibreOffice mirrors). By default, Chrome or Firefox saves this file into your phone’s standard Download directory.
Launch Torrent Download Studio on your phone. In the top bar of the Transfers screen, tap the dedicated“.torrent” button. This opens Android’s native system document picker.
In the system document picker, browse to your Download folder, tap the .torrent file, and confirm. Torrent Download Studio automatically imports the metafile, adds the transfer to your active queue, and begins swarm communication immediately.
The transfer begins automatically upon selection. The native engine initiates tracker announcements and DHT peer queries, displaying active transfer rates, piece verification progress, and an ongoing Android foreground service notification.
Once verified chunks reach 100%, files are stored locally in your phone’s internal storage under Download/Torrents. You can open them using any file manager or media viewer without additional export steps. Learn more in our guide on locating downloaded files on Android.
P2P Swarm & Lawful Content Notice
Transferring files via BitTorrent connects your device directly with peers in the swarm, exposing your public IP address to participants and announce trackers. Encryption availability depends on the selected peer and tracker. Torrent Download Studio does not guarantee encrypted transfers.
Ensure you download authorized content only, such as Linux distribution ISOs and Creative Commons media. Review our Legal & Lawful Use Policy for full details.
