1. Overview & Commitment to Privacy

Torrent Download Studio is an open-protocol BitTorrent client designed for personal, authorized, and lawful file transfers (such as open-source Linux distributions, Creative Commons media, and public-domain archives).

We respect your personal privacy. Torrent Download Studio is engineered with a strict zero-telemetry, local-first architecture:

No Account Required: You do not need an account, login, phone number, or email address to use the application.
No Third-Party Analytics: We do not integrate Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Flurry, or any behavioral telemetry SDKs.
No Advertisements: We do not include Google AdMob, Unity Ads, AppLovin, or any advertising network. No device advertising identifiers (AD_ID) are collected or transmitted.
No Remote Tracking Servers: The application developers operate no proprietary servers that log your search terms, magnet links, or file transfers.

2. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networking & IP Address Exposure

Torrent Download Studio operates using the standardized BitTorrent protocol (implemented via org.libtorrent4j). Users must understand how decentralized P2P networks function:

2.1 Swarm Communication & Public IP Exposure

When you add a magnet link or .torrent file to download or seed content, your device initiates direct network connections with other swarm participants (peers and seeders). In accordance with the BitTorrent protocol specifications (BEP 0003, BEP 0005, BEP 0010), your device transmits and receives data chunks directly to and from these peers.

Public IP Visibility Notice: Your device’s public IP address and BitTorrent client peer ID are visible to all participating peers and announce trackers within that transfer swarm. This exposure is an inherent architectural characteristic of the BitTorrent protocol, not a collection activity by the application developers.

2.2 Announce Trackers and Mainline DHT

Trackers: When transferring a torrent, the client contacts the announce trackers specified within the .torrent file or magnet link (plus public fallback trackers) to discover peer IP addresses.

Mainline DHT (Distributed Hash Table): When enabled in Settings, the client participates in the decentralized Mainline DHT network (Kademlia-based protocol) to discover peers without relying solely on centralized trackers. During DHT participation, node contact information (IP addresses and ports) is exchanged with other DHT nodes.

2.3 Encryption & External Network Masking

Encryption availability depends on the selected peer and tracker. Torrent Download Studio does not guarantee encrypted transfers.

External network tools may change the network endpoint visible to peers, but privacy, connectivity, and transfer availability are not guaranteed by Torrent Download Studio.

3. Data Storage, File Management & Deletion

3.1 Device-Local Storage

All application state, active download tasks, and partially downloaded torrent chunks are stored strictly locally on your device:

  • Temporary / In-Progress Chunks: Stored within the app’s internal sandbox storage (context.getExternalFilesDir(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS) or app-private storage).
  • Exported Public Downloads: When a transfer completes or upon manual export, the files are copied to your device’s public Download/Torrents directory using standard Android MediaStore API or Download Manager.

3.2 User Control Over Data Deletion

You retain complete, physical control over all data stored on your device:

  • Individual Torrent Removal: Deleting a torrent job within the app removes its associated app-managed and exported files from disk.
  • Clear App Data: Accessible via Settings, this action resets all app preferences and purges private queue caches. Files previously exported to your device’s public Downloads directory are preserved to prevent accidental loss of completed files.
  • System App Uninstall: Standard Android uninstallation completely removes the application package and its private data directory. Public files exported to your device Downloads directory remain accessible through your preferred file manager.

4. Android Device Permissions

Torrent Download Studio requests only the minimal set of Android system permissions required for local operation and P2P networking:

PermissionPurpose & Justification
INTERNETRequired to establish P2P TCP/UDP socket connections to BitTorrent peers, trackers, and DHT nodes.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATEUsed to inspect network connectivity (e.g., Wi-Fi vs cellular) to prevent unintended data transfers.
POST_NOTIFICATIONSRequired on Android 13+ (API 33+) to display ongoing download progress notifications in the system shade.
FOREGROUND_SERVICERequired on Android 9+ to maintain file transfer integrity when the app is minimized or backgrounded.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNCDeclared for compliance with Google Play foreground service data-sync specifications when targeting modern Android releases.
WAKE_LOCKPrevents the CPU from entering deep sleep during active piece disk writing so downloads complete without corruption.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGEUsed on Android 12 and below only (maxSdkVersion=32) to allow picking local .torrent metafiles from storage.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGEUsed on legacy Android 9 and below only (maxSdkVersion=29) for saving downloads. On Android 10+ (API 29+), Scoped Storage (MediaStore) is used without storage permissions.

5. Lawful Use & Content Responsibility

Torrent Download Studio is neutral file transfer utility software. The application developers do not host, index, curate, distribute, or promote any digital content or torrent indexes.

Users are solely responsible for verifying the legal status and licensing rights of all materials they download or seed. You agree to use the application exclusively for lawful purposes and in full compliance with all relevant local, national, and international copyright and intellectual property laws.

6. Children’s Privacy

Torrent Download Studio is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under the age of 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. Updated policies will be posted at this URL with an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the application following posted updates constitutes acceptance of the modified policy.
